Keane Wonder Mine

This gold mine is located high on the slopes of the Funeral Mountains.   Ore was carried to the valley below by a tramway.

The upper terminal.  The energy generated by the weight of ore sent down the mountain, was used to crush the ore before loading it onto the tramway.

Taken from one of the intermediate towers, this view gives some idea of the size of the tramway (it is 1.3 miles long).

I passed a mine opening where air was being sucked in fast enough to create a cold breeze.  Then, higher up the mountain, I saw this opening - it goes down at about 45 degrees - where there was a warm breeze from below.
