Pinnacles National Monument
The distinct appearance of Pinnacles.
One of the steep trails built in the 1930's by the Civilian Conservation Corps.
A suggestively shaped pinnacle.
More pinnacles.
Pinnacles has a wild pig problem, and this is a trap, set by the Park staff in the south wilderness area, to capture the pigs. I saw several wild pigs, and the damage they have done is visible throughout the park.
Rick has hiked so much in Pinnacles that he knows the area better than most of the rangers. He led me over animal trails to the top of Mount Defiant, then on to the slopes of South Chalone, and (by trail) to the top of North Chalone. This was taken between the peaks, with North Chalone in the background.
Looking north from the top of North Chalone (you are looking north - I'm looking south).
